The Domaine du Vieux Pressoir can claim being one of the driving force of this aoc, as part of the winemakers group who fought to get its recognition.
A little group of winemakers started the adventure, without any ressources, but with only one goal : to create a top range Loire red wine.
From this idea, they imposed themselves some strict production and winemaking criterias.
The goal was not to attein large volume production but to obtain a top quality wine : the Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame.

Today, around 20 winemakers are producing this high range wine and commit themselfe to respect some stric production rules :

  • A quality approach during the july month preceeding the coming harvest : the winemakers visit all the vineyards engaged in the production of Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame wine in order to confirm the respect of the criterias
  • Yield : 50 hl/ha
  • Pruning : seven eyes maximum per vine
  • The ageing of the wine until at least the 1st of june, following the harvest.

The Domaine du Vieux Pressoir chose to not start selling the wine before the december following the harvest of the grapes.

Tasting notes of the Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame.

The color of our Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame is an intense red. It offers aromas of ripe candied fruits, the tanins are supple and the mouth is long and structured. It fully expresses itself at a serving temperature between 13° and 16°c and can accompany a whole meal.
It can be paired perfectly with grilled red meat and stews.
Very pleasant in its young age, it will improve for at least 10 years in a cellar.
It is definitly a wine with a long ageing potential.
